VANZANDT/VANZANT/VANSANT - I am looking for information on my ggggrandparents,
Joseph Vanzandt and Elizabeth Polk, who were from Schoharie and were married by
Squire Sweetman on April 5, 1821 in Carlisle. Attending the wedding were:
Sylvain Parkenson and his wife Hannah, John Ferris, Nancy Rogers, Rosy Vanzandt,
William Polk and Jesse Roberts. Joseph VanZandt (Vansant) joined Jeremiah
(Sylvenus) Brown's Regiment to travel northern to the St. Lawrence River and
then fought at the "Battle of Plattsburgh". In return he was awarded 160 acres
of land in Northern New York, town of Russell. According to the National Achives
in Washington he joined the regiment on September 20, 1814. It also states in
Pension Records that his was Elizabeth was a near relative of Present James K.
Polk. I am researching this family and trying to learn more about their parents
and where they came from. It is my understanding that VanZandt is Dutch and the
are a part of the Albany VanZandt's and any help with this query would be
greatly appreciated. This has been a brick wall for me until I received
information back from the National Achives. Gary Bushaw - posted 11-02
