     Mrs. Albert Sawdy was born in Broome, Oct. 23, 1857, being the second child to survive its childhood born to Christopher Hagadone and Elizabeth Scutt. While still a small child her mother died and her father remarried Harriet Scutt, later moving to the homestead near Preston Hollow now owned by Chauncey Potter. Here Bertha grew to womanhood, marrying Albert Sawdy of Crystal Lake where they resided until three years ago, when they moved to Albany. While residing at Albany her husband died in June, 1918. After her husband’s death she continued the business of keeping a boarding and rooming house until the end of the year, when she broke up housekeeping, and since has been living with her children.
     During the fall and early winter she had been with her daughter, until early in December she decided to visit once more her friends and relatives about Broome and Preston Hollow, from where she went to her son’s home at West Albany, arriving there Dec. 27th. On the morning of Dec. 29th she sustained a shock from which she never rallied, departing this life early on the morning of Jan. 8. She had long been a faithful member of the Hawverville Baptist church from which her funeral was held on Jan. 10th, Rev. G. W. Rockwell officiating.
     She was known as a very capable and ambitious woman, and next to the natural attractiveness of Crystal Lake, her skill in providing for those who came there summers was responsible for its early popularity.
     Of her immediate friends she leaves one daughter, Mrs. Fred Brayman, one son, Duane A. Sawdy, a sister in law, Minnie E. Sawdy, one brother, Burton Hagadone, three sisters, Mrs. Joshua Travis, Mrs. Charles Loveland, Mrs. Chauncey Potter, and five grandchildren, Duane J., and Marjorie Sawdy, and the Misses Leah, Esther and Ruth Brayman.
