Mrs. Amanda Crippen obituary

contributed by Anne LaMont

February 8, 1900

Mrs. Amanda Crippen, whose illness has been so often mentioned in this paper, fell asleep in Jesus on Wednesday morning, Feb. 7, aged 53 years. The funeral services will be at the M. E. church, Friday at 11 a.m.
Such an announcement will be read with regret by a very large part of our readers and many will feel a personal bereavement in the loss. Mrs. Crippen was so largely known and had so many friends that the news of her death will be sad news to all.
It is but fitting that we should add that Mrs. Crippen was a member of the M. E. church of this village, and one of those earnest, whole souled christians that to know her was to love her. Her hand was ever open to give to any good cause, while many things she did in His name will not be known to the world.
She was stricken down with disease several weeks ago, and since that time scarcely a moment of her life has been without pain. During all these weeks not a murmur of complaint, not an impatient word passed her lips. She believed it was all well and good. She knew she was in the Lord's care. During that time her mind was clear and until the last was able to speak. Her words were full of hope; her faith in God was remarkably strong. She knew in whom she had believed and was confident that whatever came would be for the best. She lived by faith and walked in hand with God.
During her sickness she was cared for by her sister. her husband died nine years ago. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Charles A. Snyder, and one brother, Counselor W. H. Albro.
